Raid Saturday 9/11: Everyone Vote please

We've had some great DN runs lately, and I intend to keep DN on the regular schedule. However, with the new content release, I'd like to revisit our Saturday night raid. There are also some changes we'll be implementing to the sign-up system.

**********************

*Item The First:** This Saturday's raid. Please read the options below, then VOTE - but ONLY if you can actually attend the event this Saturday - and sign-up as normal. Please vote and sign-up even if there are 12+ names already signed up. If we can field 2 groups, we will.*
*_Option #1:_* We typically do DN on Saturday nights. We've got DN pretty much on farm status, and I know people are closing in on significant set bonuses from the Lady's Armor Sets. We can keep that up by pwning DN again this Saturday.

*_Option #2:_* the new Helegrod content. For those of you who don't know, Helegrod was one of the Classic instances that got revamped with F2P. The instance has been scaled up to level 65 and broken into 4 parts - three 12-person raids and one 24-person raid. The 24 person raid is unlocked by successfully completing all three 12-person "wings." Each and every character must perform this unlocking procedure only one time in order to attempt the 24-person raid wing as often as desired. If we choose to run Helegrod this Saturday, we would simply start with one of the 12-person wings and work our way through until we run out of time (or complete all 3 wings).

*Note: If there is continued interest in both raids, I will try to construct an agreeable schedule that includes both in the very near future.

Note 2: THERE IS NO RADIANCE REQUIREMENT FOR HELEGROD.*

**********************

*Item The Second:** The event calender and raid sign-ups.*

I know the current raid sign-up system is unwieldy. Unfortunately, there are a number of problems with using our website calender. We are going to attempt to implement a solution on a trial basis. Capricious (aka Thunderkiss on the forums) has set up a Guild Portal site for our raid group. It's called Raiders Haven. Here's a link (http://guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=370214&TabID=3104298). If you have a Guild Portal account already, all you have to do is sign in. If not, just sign up for free. We will start to manage sign-ups on this site starting next week. However, in order to test things out, I've posted a Saturday Night Raid on the calender. Please sign up there as well as here so we can figure out any bugs in the system.

*Note: Raiders Haven is not a TCO site. The intent is to provide our multi-kin raid group a website dedicated to managing our raid activities. TCO-specific event will still be posted in the usual locations.
*

**********************

*Whatever the results of this week's poll, please make it a point to be familiar with our raid policies by reading the links below. Thanks!* :D

1) Please read the TCO Raid Primer (http://www.thecrescentorder.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18019) for our basic guidelines, if you have not already. Please also read this (http://www.thecrescentorder.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18147), that (http://www.thecrescentorder.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18159), and the other (http://www.thecrescentorder.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18223) for important information on specific raiding policies.

2) Please plan to be online and raid ready at *8:45pm* Eastern. Whenever you get on, please send a PM to Colred. Do this even if you're swapping toons around, so I know you are available. I will start recruiting subs no later than 8:55pm.

3) If you are not a member of TCO nor OHaMB, you may want to join our allied chat channel 'tcoh' anyway. That's our main channel for organizing these raids. I also subcribe to 'RF' - so you can contact me on that channel.

4) If you're thinking about joining us this week, *please sign up on this thread and list the toon/class you'd like to bring.*

5) Saturday's raid will run from 9pm to 12am Eastern minimum. If you sign up, please be ready to commit to those 3 hours. If we have 10 or more who are willing to run past midnight, we will push on.

This is also posted as the login message, but just in case you miss it. Turbine says this is necessary to get your retroactive deed points (the reputation points):

When logging in for the first time after the patch, stop on the character selection screen and bring up the LotRO store right there. (It's a biiiiig, shiny button.) Then close it and go ahead into the game.

The bug that makes this necessary (one time only) will be fixed at some future date.

On the one hand, it's disappointing that there's nothing a group can do to "force" the drop.

On the other hand, it's a relief that there's nothing a group can do to "force" the drop. I always felt like some kind of failbot when I saw the singed cloak.

Free To Play and Vol 3 Book 2: A last-minute infodump and FAQ

The game will be down for possibly an extended period tomorrow (Sept 7) as the servers are updated for Free To Play and V3 B2. So, to give you something to do in the meantime, and because I like having everything in one place, I give you: Infodump!

*Release Notes*
Click Here (http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Release_Notes_Volume_3_Book_2_Official)

*Developer Diaries*
LotRO Store Starter Guide (http://www.lotro.com/component/content/article/44-get-started/804-featured-article-lotro-store-starter-guide) -- The big change with this update.
New Region: Enedwaith (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/747-developer-diary-enedwaith) -- Getting a tiny bit closer to Isengard!
Instances 2.0 Part I (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/754-developer-diary-instances-20-part-1-) -- Classic instances borrow from the Skirmish system and can now be scaled to 65
Instances 2.0 Part II (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/759-developer-diary-instances-20-part-2-) -- Rewards (what do you get for playing Great Barrows at 65?)
Instances 2.0 Part III (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/764-developer-diary-instances-20-part-3-) -- Details about Annuminas and Eregion (School & Library)
Instances 2.0 Part IV (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/772-developer-diary-instances-20-part-4-) -- Details about Helegrod
Instances 2.0 Part V (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/785-developer-diary-instances-20-part-5-) -- Details about Great Barrow, and a summary
Volume III Book 2: Quest Notes (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/786-developer-diary-volume-iii-book-2-quest-notes) -- A few minor spoilers, otherwise mostly a discussion of the design process plus a new session play
The Wardrobe system (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/792-developer-diary-wardrobe-system) -- If you like LotRO's cosmetic outfit system ... it just got about 73 times better.
Vault changes (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/795-developer-diary-vault-changes) -- In beta, these changes were ... controversial. The devs have accommodated most of the original complaints, and there are some good points, but it may take some getting used to.
Captain changes (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/797-developer-diary-captain-revision) -- Lots of attention paid to the Captain class in this update. If you play one, you'll want to read this.
Crafting Updates (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/803-developer-diary-volume-iii-book-2-crafting-update) -- You can now crit after attaining Proficiency (not Mastery). Other updates as well.
Lua Scripting (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/808-developer-diary-lotro-lua-scripting) -- The UI has been opened up a bit to allow the community to do some coding and customizing. This is a brief overview with not much detail.

*Forum Links*
A big and very helpful FAQ list (http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=335135)

*FAQ*

Q: The servers are going down Tuesday morning for this update. When will they be back up?
A: The devs have not said. It may be a while. But when they do come back up, players eligible for Head Start can log in and play -- and this might be before the official start of Head Start (which is Sept 8).

In other words, you might be able to see the new content tomorrow (Tuesday).

Q: Head Start? What?
A: Current and former players of LotRO, plus beta testers, can get in game on Wednesday, Sept 8 (or possibly Tuesday, see above). Brand new players won't get in until the official launch of F2P on Friday, Sept 10.

Q: Hey, my server list is different.
A: Yep, in anticipation of an influx of new free players, LotRO has added four new servers: Riddermark, Crickhollow, Dwarrodelf, Imladris. Nothing about the existing servers is changing (i.e., TCO remains a Firefoot kinship).

Q: Where's the Fall Festival? The beta testers said it was pretty cool, I want to try it.
A: The Fall festival was part of beta testing, but won't go live until October (tentativly, October 19).

Q: I'm a lifer or paying subscriber and I thought I was supposed to get a bunch of free points. Where are they?
A: The devs hope to have all bonus loyalty points distributed by September 12. So you shouldn't have to wait long. You should get a modest number of points immediately upon login, for some new retroactive reputation deeds that award points. Each of your toons will auto-complete the deeds at login (if they have the appropriate rep) and get a few points for your account. Hopefully that'll tide you over until the big deposit.

Q: Don't I also get some points every month? When will those show up?
A: Yep, lifers and paying subscribers get 500 points a month. They will drop into your account within a day or two of your payment going through. (For lifers, they will hit your account within a day or two of the monthly anniversary of your lifetime purchase.)

Q: I'm a paying subscriber ... If I dont' care about the 500 points a month, can I just stop paying the monthly subscription and play for free?
A: You can, but there is an impact on your account. You would drop you from "VIP" status to "Premium" status. You would not be able to do any quests outside the newbie zones. (Exception: You could still do the Epic quests. And, if you had previously paid for Moria and/or Mirkwood, you could still do the quests in those zones.) You would also lose access to two character slots. (If you have characters in all available slots, they will still exist but you'll have to pick two that you won't play. You can pay to unlock them again if desired.)

Other ways your account will change if you drop from paid to free (based on forum reports):
- Newly created characters will have a gold cap and only get 3 inventory bags. (Existing characters keep unlimited gold and 5 inventory bags.)
- Newly created characters will have to purchase the riding skill. (Existing ones with the skill won't lose it.)
- Newly created characters will have limited trait slots. (Existing ones aren't affected.)
- No access to quests outside the starter zones, unless you buy the quest packs
- No "rest XP" (accelerated xp gain or "blue bar")
- Lose access to most swift travel routes (keep those earned by reputation)
- Can't advance in crafting guilds
- Unspecified chat restrictions for free players

Things you'd get to keep:
- Access to Moria and Mirkwood (including quests), if you bought those expansions already
- Benefits of the Adventurer's Pack, if you bought that previously (shared storage, character slots, etc)

Q: Is the level cap going up with F2P?
Nope. Not now at least. Devs say to expect an increase in 2011, which is probably also when we'll reach Isengard.

A big and very helpful FAQ list

FAQ

DN Raid Part Deux: Sunday 9/5 6pm Eastern

We had a great run last week - just over 3 hours for all 6 bosses and that included a non-boss wipe. I think we can shave even more time off the run this week. Let's make it a goal to actually start the run at 9pm sharp this time. That means login early to get raid ready, or get ready the night before. Remember - no common damage for DN. Get your Beleriand, Westernesse, or Ancient Dwarven scroll for your main weapon if you haven't already.

Please make it a priority to read this (http://www.thecrescentorder.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18147), that (http://www.thecrescentorder.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18159), and the other (http://www.thecrescentorder.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18223) if you plan on raiding with us this week or in the near future.

Weekly reminders:

1) Please read the TCO Raid Primer (http://www.thecrescentorder.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18019) for our basic guidelines, if you have not already.

6) For those of you interested, this (http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Guide_to_Dar_Narbugud) is a very good walkthrough that explains much of the instance.

*Minimums Level: 63
Minimum Radiance: 65
Recommended Level: 65
Recommended Radiance: 85+*

Please have your consumables ready beforehand as well: lvl 65 Fear, Poison, and Wound pots. Three +5 Hope tokens (30 or 40 minutes). Three max-tier Battle and Warding scrolls. Any morale/power pots and food you like. Poison resist food is very useful in DN.

As always, the emphasis will be on having a low-stress, high-fun Raid experience. See you in game!

Devs have announced that they're going to suspend lotteries for several weeks now that we're close to the start of F2P. When they bring them back it will be in a new and improved form, or so they say.

But! In the meantime they are loading up this weekend with lots and lots of lotteries. There's already a bunch available to enter (including some Symbol lotteries). After this weekend, no more for a while.

So! Check your my.lotro.com account page frequently, it could pay off. Anything you win, of course, you should split with me. ;)
